Sahuaro rolling into rivalry game against Sabino

TUCSON – Week 3 is upon us, the first full week that most of Southern Arizona’s high school football teams will be in action.

Another rivalry is on tap and it’s our Friday Football Fever Game of the Week.

Sabino (1-0) and Sahauro will hook up for the 46th time in their east side showdown. The Sabercats lead the series 29-16 and have won 13 of the last 15 games.

One of those wins for the Cougars came in a punishing 34-7 victory in 2018 in which the Cougars amassed 419 yards rushing.

Sahuaro (2-0) is off to a roaring start in 2019. They’ve outscored their opponents 81-8 in two opening-victories.

The Cougars once again are doing it on the ground. Scott McKee’s crew has rolled up 750 yards in beating Vista Grande (55-0) and Buena (26-8).

Izaiah Davis has 365 of those yards. He put up 266 and three touchdowns in win over the Colts.

Sabino (1-0) opened their season last week with a 14-7 victory over Casa Grande.

Zakri Porter-Trainer had three sacks for the Sabercats defense.
