New details in officer involved shooting at Ft. Lowell Park

TUCSON – Tucson Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Wednesday morning.

It happened near Ft. Lowell Park in the 5700 block of East Glenn Street.

According to Tucson Police, officers were speaking with an adult female, when an adult male started making suicidal threats. The man was armed with a knife and started approaching the officers.

Officers gave multiple commands to drop the knife, but the man continued advancing toward the officers. Officer Alberto Olivares deployed his taser at the suspect, but the man kept charging. Olivares then discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.

Officers immediately began rendering aid to that individual until Tucson Fire Department was able to move in. Tucson Fire transported the suspect to a nearby hospital, where he’s currently being treated right now with serious injuries.”

No officers were injured in this incident. The suspect is still being treated at a local hospital.

Tucson Police say the man and woman know each other, but they are still trying to determine their relationship.
