Suspect of fatal drive-by shooting in Green Valley appears in court

TUCSON –The man arrested in connection to a fatal shooting in Green Valley was in court Wednesday.

Californian 21-year-old, Mateo Zavala was taken into custody after he allegedly was involved in a rolling gun battle down Interstate 19 near Esperanza Boulevard on June 29.

The shooting resulted in the death of Marilynn Patricia Pacheco. According to police, a 29-year-old man and his 3-year-old daughter were also shot in the incident.

Zavala is facing five charges in reference to the shooting – first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault of a minor under 15 and endangerment.

The next hearing was scheduled for Aug. 15.
