Armed man in custody after ramming police cruiser during chase

PICTURE ROCKS, Ariz. – An armed man is in police custody after he reportedly rammed a Marana police cruiser during a vehicle chase Thursday morning.

Kyle Montgomery, 25, was apprehended Thursday afternoon by Marana Police Department, Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Oro Valley Police Department, Alcohol and Tobacco and Firearms, and Homeland Security Investigations at Prince Road and Stone Avenue following a day-long manhunt.

According to Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Marana Police Department attempted to pull over the suspect in Picture Rocks in Picture Rocks near Ina Road and Featherstone Loop Thursday morning. PCSD said the man reportedly pointed a rifle at the responding officers and rammed his car into a patrol vehicle.

He then fled the scene on foot near Ina and Sandario roads.

Marana Police Department and the responding law enforcement agencies launched a manhunt for the 25-year-old, advising the public to consider Montgomery armed and dangerous. They also advised Picture Rocks residents to lock themselves in their homes while the search was being conducted.

Officials have not yet released what prompted the initial traffic stop.
