K9 officer finds meth during traffic stop in Benson

BENSON, Ariz. – A woman was arrested during a traffic stop Wednesday after a canine located methamphetamine in the exterior of a vehicle, police said.

According to Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Kathryn Merrill had about five ounces of methamphetamine inside a vehicle. She was stopped in the 800 block of N. Ocotillo St., for a civil traffic violation.

Merrill was booked into the Cochise County Sherrif’s Office Jail and is being held on a $25,000 bond.

She faces charges of possession of a dangerous drug, transportation of a dangerous drug, transportation of a dangerous drug for sale, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, use of an electronic device during a drug offense.

Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit will continue working on the investigation.
