Victim of fatal hit-and-run remembered by longtime employer

TUCSON – Monday evening was supposed to be a typical work shift for tow-truck driver Richard “Rick” Struble, as he assisted a customer at a local tire shop.

But tragedy struck around 10 p.m. when a hit-and-run driver crashed into the parking lot. Struble and the customer, Ramon Murillo III, were both hit and killed.

Authorities say they are searching for the man they believe is the driver, 32-year-old Justin Lang.

Struble was a 20-year veteran of Luna’s Auto Service and Towing. His longtime employer, Jesse Luna, said he was the consummate professional who was responsible for training every driver who joined the company.

Now, they are all trying to come to terms with his unexpected death.

“We were devastated, shocked [when we heard the news],” said Luna. “We couldn’t believe it because he was in a parking lot. We figured he’d be out on the highway. But it happened in a parking lot.”

Luna described Struble as a ‘people person’, and said customers he’d helped in the past have been calling the shop to give their condolences.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Struble’s fiancee. You can find a link here.
