Family of victim of first-degree murder reacts to guilty verdict

TUCSON – A Tucson man accused of killing his girlfriend, concealing her body and then going on the run for nearly two months was found guilty of first-degree murder Tuesday.

A jury deliberated for nearly three days before finding Mario Jesus Dorame guilty of killing Maria Delores Escobedo back in 2017.

Escobedo’s family was in the courtroom when the verdict was read.

“You’ll never get justice,” said Escobedo’s brother, Jose Tellez. “We are just glad that he is behind bars and is going to stay behind bars so that nothing happens to anybody else.”

Dorame was convicted of first-degree murder, unlawful imprisonment, tampering with evidence and concealing a body.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 12.

Tellez said he has chosen to focus on his sister’s life.

“She was just always laughing, funny, never saw an angry side in her,” he said.
