Sunnyside Coach & Mentor To Make Comeback at MMA RUF 32

TUCSON – Sunnyside High school assistant wrestling coach Ray Piña is making a big comeback in professional Mixed Martial Arts. The 3-time wrestling state champ will fight at “RUF 32” in Maricopa, AZ. Here’s more with the Sunnyside grad as he continues to mentor fellow wrestlers (from News 4 Tucson sportscast):

In the Main Event, fighting at 170, Brasilian Rafael Souza, cousin of UFC star Jacare Souza, will be facing South Tucson’s most popular MMA fighter and former Bellator star Raymond “The Truth” Pina. Both have never met in the cage and will surely bring the house down.

In the Co-Main event, MMA Veteran & RUF MMA Heavyweight World Champion- Tony “Kryptonite” Lopez will be defending his title vs. Maricopa’s own “Dale Sopi”. Both pros have been actively fighting in Bare Knuckle Fighting events and have fought on other Boxing shows as well. They will now clash in Maricopa at RUF 32 for the Heavyweight World Title!

In other featured pro fights: Andres “The Punisher” Ponce will battle Yuma’s own Joe Gustina, who just fought at M1 Global last month at Quechen at 145. Also on the pro card, Brasilian, Raphael Montini, will be taking on local MMA veteran JT Wells in a bantamweight showdown. Montini is part of UFC’s World Champion-Team Henry Cejudo.

Other notable matchups include Casa Grande’s own Joseph Rivas vs. Nick Lewis. The 205 Amateur Title will be contested between Tucsonan Pete Rodriguez from Dominate MMA vs
Michael Schlageck from Damri MMA and at 125 Aaron Hernandez will be making his debut vs Robert Shepardson from Damri MMA in Avondale, AZ.
