Caliber hospitality is expected to spend $20 million on a new hotel

TUCSON – It’s been in the works for a while but today city leaders and business people broke ground on a hotel at the Tucson Convention Center.

The hotel will be a Double Tree by Hilton.

The Rio Nuevo district board approved the 125-room hotel last year.

Caliber hospitality, which purchased the Hilton Tucson East, is expected to spend $20 million on the new hotel.

City leaders say Tucson has long needed a hotel adjacent to the TCC.

Caliber’s agreement with Rio Nuevo will allow it to keep a minimum of $2.5 million in sales tax revenue from the hotel.

The hotel is also slated to have a restaurant and coffee shop.
