Strong winds divert three flights to Tucson from Phoenix

TUCSON – Three flights were diverted from Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport to Tucson International Airport Wednesday evening, according to Jessie Butler from TUS.

According to Chief Meteorologist Matt Brode, strong storms in Central Arizona were creating outflow winds to over 50 mph near the City of Phoenix. There was also a good deal of wind shear detected in the region creating potentially dangerous landing conditions.

An unseasonably late area of low pressure is sliding through the State continuing to keep temperatures well lower than seasonable averages by May standards.

Periods of unsettled weather will continue through the Mother’s Day weekend.
