TUCSON-Tucson’s first indoor football team kicks off its season this weekend. Wednesday the Tucson Sugar Skulls held a media day and previewed what fans can expect this inaugural season.
“It feels good I feel honored to be a part of this organization and it’s definitely a blessing to play in your own town, “Cam Gaddis Sugar Skulls Defensive Back said, “So it’s definitely huge and I’m taking a lot of pride into it.”
Gaddis, is a born and raised Tucsonan, who says he is excited to be a part of Tucson’s first indoor professional football team.
“It’s really fast…The field is smaller…The only thing that comes to mind is speed. It’s way faster, so you definitely got to adjust,” Gaddis said.
Sugar Skulls Head Coach Marcus Coleman is ready for those adjustments.
“It’s never been done. [Tucson’s]first official professional team so you know really excited,” said Coleman, “Everybody is excited about that and hopefully people like the product that we put out there.”
A product that is predicted to boost Tucson’s local economy.
“Right off the bat when teams come to town they stay in hotel rooms and that’s notable in itself right,” Dan Gibson Director of Communications for Visit Tucson, “It creates as the Sugar Skull season goes on there’s teams coming in and staying in Tucson and that’s an immediate positive.”
The spring season is expected to be another activity for people to enjoy downtown.
“We’ve got our guys picked out and now we can just start doing what we like to do and thats playing and getting ready to get some wins,” Coleman said.
