Crime Trackers: Gem Show Theft

TUCSON — The family rented the house behind me.  On Wednesday someone broke in and stole about $10,000 worth of items they had purchased for their store.

“This is a big hit for our family and our small business.“

Heather and Miles Wright own a small business in Eureka, California.  They have been coming to the Gem Show for a decade.

This year they brought their son Liam, and he is upset about the burglary.

“I would say that’s not cool.”

Wright says the thief kicked in the door; they took pictures to prove it.  She adds they were only gone 45 minutes.  The thieves stole gems, sterling silver jewelry, and two iPads.

“I assume they must have been watching us and saw we had left and gone to do our shopping for the day. “

She may be right, according to neighbors who asked not to be identified.

“There was a guy the day before standing here in front of the of the wash area standing, casing the place and just staring over there.  I guess the next day they came and hit them.”

He says he reported it to the police and gave them a description.

“6 foot 2 mid 30’s a white gentleman.”

Unfortunately, burglaries are common in the neighborhood.

“That is one of the first things we did when we bought our house is put bars.  And the break-ins just kept happening and more bars. “

Liam has a message for the thieves.

“I would chase them into prison.”

The wrights shared some of the pictures of the jewelry that was stolen… in hopes the public sees it, and they can get it returned.

“This is a big loss they make look at the inventory and say these people have plenty of money, but the truth is we work really hard “
