TUCSON – One call every 6.2 seconds, that is how often people living in the 520 area code are getting scam and robo calls.
“Yeah, it’s really annoying. Unless I am expecting a call from an interview or my mom, I know when the phone rings it’s going to be a robo call,” said UA student Alize Bowman.
According to the Yourmail website, the number of robocalls coming into the Tucson area has gone from 12 million to more than 16 million in the last five months.
“I feel like the purpose is not getting to the people anymore you’re just wasting your time using the robots,” said Dylan Tyler.
Here are some easy tips you can use to cut down on the number of robo calls you are getting.
- Contact your service provider. Most have free services you can use to block robo calls.
- Download and App. RoboKiller uses a database to block calls. There is a subscription fee.
- Hang up or just don’t answer.
- Contact your representative. The ROBOCOP Act is currently making its way through Congress. If passed, it would require phone companies to do more to prevent robo calls from reaching your phone.
