What’s Driving You Crazy: Using the center turn lane

The center turn lane is “what’s driving you crazy” this week.

Luis said people use the center lane as a through lane from two to four blocks away from the intersection in order to make a left turn.

He said, "I have witnessed three head-on collisions and several misses due to this issue. The city needs to do something to avoid this high risk behavior."

We talked to Tucson Police about this.

Officers do enforce this. TPD says it’s a bad problem on southbound Craycroft approaching Speedway. There are a lot of crashes in that area.

TPD reminds drivers that the center lane is designed to enter and make an immediate turn. The lane is not designed to drive in and pass other side streets.
