Daniel McFarland is a meteorologist and multi-skilled journalist who joined News 4 Tucson in December 2019.
He holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal from the American Meteorological Society and is the only meteorologist in Tucson who has that seal.
Daniel graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology, and minors in mathematics and communications.
Prior to KVOA, he worked as a morning meteorologist for WGXA in Macon, Ga., where he covered direct impacts from Hurricanes Michael and Irma.
Daniel also covered multiple massive tornado outbreaks, including the outbreak of January 2017, where Middle, Ga. saw 40 confirmed touchdowns in just 24 hours.
Daniel has also worked at WBKO in Bowling Green, Ky.
Daniel grew up in Pensacola Beach. That is where his interest in weather began. He began surfing when he was 8 years old and tracked ocean swells in his teen years.
The 2004-2005 hurricane season was also a major influence. Hurricane Ivan destroyed his childhood home and he wanted to learn about what causes these ferocious storms.
When not at work, Daniel enjoys going to the gym, hiking around the Tucson mountains and hanging out with his wife, Maria Grazia and their two dogs, Kiwi and Maverick.
