TUCSON - I've featured some hard hikes over the past year and this week’s hike is right up there with Tucson's toughest at Sabino Canyon’s Esperero Trail!
The Esperero Trail has a couple starting points. The first is near the cactus picnic area or at shuttle stop number one, which drops you off at the Rattlesnake Trail. That trail is a mostly flat and easy hike and after a half mile you reach the Esperero Trail.
During this hike you'll gain a whopping 4-thousand feet in elevation but there are some flat spots allowing you to catch your breath and the breathtaking views.
From the city to the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, you have a front row seat for it all!
If the views don't do it for you, the wildlife will with plenty of whitetail deer calling Sabino Canyon home. If you're lucky, you might catch a family of them eating!
Be ready to invest an entire day and remember the last time the shuttle swings by stop number one is 4 pm so the earlier you start the better.
A trail map can be found here. Happy hiking!
