Hittin’ the Trails 4 You – Butterfly Trail

TUCSON – Ben, William (my dog) and I decided to beat the heat last weekend so we went up to Mount Lemmon and hiked part of the Butterfly Trail.

It takes about an hour and ten minutes to get there from Speedway and Campbell and the drive up is gorgeous. The trail is free and dog friendly as long as they are kept on a leash but keep in mind that this trail is rated as difficult!

Once you get to the trail, it starts out paved and then you quickly start winding through trees and narrow paths. The views are beautiful up there and yes, we saw some butterflies too!

Once you get to the trail, expect a long hike if you do the whole thing. Out and back is 10.8 miles. William was getting tired so we kept our hike short but still got a good work out!

We loved this trail, so if you’re interested in checking it out – a map and directions to the Butterfly Trail are below!

Happy hiking!

Directions from Campbell and Speedway:

  • Head east on Speedway
  • Turn left on Wilmot and continue on Tanque Verde
  • Turn Left on Catalina Highway
  • Look out for signs for the Butterfly Trailhead and turn right into the parking lot
