TUCSON - A retired teacher from the Tucson area is finding a way to put her skills to good use during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paula Knauss taught at Tucson High School for 40 years. She was one of nine finalists for UA Athletics’ Teacher of the Year in 1997.

Now she’s back in the teaching game virtually instructing her granddaughters at what she calls “Grandma School”.

Former Tucson High teacher Paula Knauss conducts "Grandma School" on Tuesdays and Thursdays with her twin seven-year old granddaughters who live in Massachusetts

Knauss’ son and his wife live in western Massachuttses. They have been home-schooling their twin seven-year-olds during this coronavirus pandemic.

But two days a week they hand the reigns to Knauss.

The longtime educator researches subject matter, emails a lesson plan and then connects with the girls on Facetime every Tuesday and Thursday.
